v.5.5.0

Date of Release: 06/11/2026

General remarks: Embedded Engine upgrade, new policy settings and security updates

Components / Services released:

● Glasswall Meteor App

● Embedded Engine v16.12.1

● Glasswall Conform v1.3.1

New features:

Embedded Engine v16.12.1

Meteor now uses Embedded Engine v16.12.1.

New policy settings

The Policy settings page has new settings for Word, Excel and PowerPoint files:

  • Word: Custom markup, Digital signatures, Document variables, Embedded fonts, Field codes, Footnotes and endnotes, Headers and footers, Printer information, Web video extension and Write reservation.
  • Excel: Custom markup, Digital signatures, Headers and footers, Printer information, Scenarios and Write reservation.
  • PowerPoint: Custom markup, Digital signatures, Embedded fonts, Printer information and Write reservation.

The Other file types tab has a new TIFF Non-standard sections setting. TIFFs can include non-standard data that's not part of the image, giving attackers space to hide malicious content.

Every new setting defaults to Sanitize. File details lists the matching items when Meteor removes them from a file.

Folder pickers remember your last folder

Folder and file pickers now open at the last folder you chose. The first time you use a picker, it opens at the folder already set for that field.

Security updates

  • Meteor now runs on Electron 44.9.3 and includes updated third-party components.
  • Meteor now validates TLS certificates on all connections. If your network inspects HTTPS traffic, make sure Windows trusts its certificate.

Fixes

  • The Word Field code: Comments policy setting now applies Allow and Block as set. Meteor keeps any value you chose in an earlier version.
  • File details lists Field code: Comments items by name instead of as a removed embedded object.
  • The Technical help page shows online content when you are connected to the internet.

Known issues or limitations:

  1. Different Archives files format not supported (Gzip, Tar).
  2. Synchronization of very large folders may reduce performance.
  3. New functionality limited to Windows.
  4. Word 1997-2003 (.doc) files containing an embedded item will not have results for Find and Redact. Clean file will still be returned.
  5. Homoglyphs will be used as a match when processing however will not show as matching in the UI in Find and Redact.
  6. Redaction will only work with single byte UTF-8 Characters.
  7. Find and Redact is case insensitive.
  8. Lookahead and Lookbehind regex patterns will cause Find and Redact to silently fail.
  9. Some PDF files that would be blocked are being regenerated.
  10. Files with a filepath longer than 255 characters long will fail to be processed. You can work around this by doing one of the following:
    • Enabling Win32 Long Paths via Group Policy (Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Filesystem)
    • Adding a DWORD Registry Key called LongPathsEnabled with a value of 1 at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
